Create content
Use the three-step Create wizard to start a researched, source-checked article, then follow its progress live.
The Create Content wizard starts an article in three steps. Opttab then researches, writes and reviews it while you watch, or while you get on with something else.
Owners, Admins and Members with full access can create content. Each run uses one content generation from your account's allowance, which depends on your plan. See Plans and billing.
How it works
Create an article
Open Content Studio and press Create Content. Each step appears in the Content Creation pane. Use Continue and Back to move between steps, or Discard to leave.
Select Goal
Choose what you want to create:
-
Reduce Content Gap shows Your Content Gap: topics where AI answers from the last 30 days cite others instead of you. Each row shows its evidence, for example "Lost 5 of 8 answers · cited instead: …", and a kind:
- New content: you have no article on this topic.
- Improve existing: you have one. Press Open article to see it.
- Off-site: closing this gap needs work outside your website.
- Covered: you're already cited.
Picking a gap writes for the prompt you lose most often.
-
Start From Scratch writes on a topic you choose.
Select Type
Pick a Topic and a Prompt with Choose from topics and Choose from prompts. Both pickers are searchable, and picking a topic narrows the prompts. Then choose a type: Blog Post, Listicle, Content Brief or Comparison.
Add Custom Instructions
Add Custom Instructions for this article only, up to 150 characters. Check the Language; it starts as your brand's language. You'll also see a summary of your Article Settings, with Edit to change them.
Generate
Press Generate Content. The live progress page opens.
A Content Brief stops after planning. When you open it in the editor, press Generate the full article to write the article from the brief's research. This uses another content generation.
Follow the live progress
The Generating content page shows what Opttab is doing. You can leave this page; the run keeps going, and you'll find it under Your Content › In progress.
The Stages track shows the current stage and the time elapsed:
- Reading your brand
- Researching sources
- Planning the brief
- Checking every point has a source
- Writing the sections
- Assembling the article
- Reviewing quality
- Adding visuals
- Saving the draft
As it works, the page shows the working title, how many sources it has read, how many sections are written with the word count, and images as they're added. The side panel's Chat tab shows each step.
When it finishes, you see "Done. Opening your draft…" and the editor opens. If it stops, you see "The run stopped before it finished." with the stage it stopped at. Press Retry to start again; a retry uses another content generation.
How Opttab writes the article
- It reads your brand facts and your own pages. For a tracked prompt, it also reads the AI answers and the sources they cite.
- It researches the web and reads up to eight of the best pages. It keeps a fact only when it finds the quote word for word on the page.
- It plans a brief, dropping any claim without a source.
- It writes the article, then adds the title, lead, meta description, key takeaways and a next step, and links to your pages.
- A review checks the draft, repairs it once, and removes anything still unsupported.
- It adds visuals according to your Article Settings: a cover, up to four inline images, and charts drawn from sourced numbers.
The result has a score from 0 to 100 and a verdict:
| Verdict | What it means |
|---|---|
| Ready | Ready for a person to review. |
| Needs edits | Worth fixing before you publish. |
| Blocked | Something is badly wrong, such as the wrong language, a title the article doesn't deliver, or too little content left after review. |
The score summarises quality. It doesn't predict how you'll rank.
Limits
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Content generations | Each run, retry and Generate the full article uses one. Depends on your plan. |
| Runs in progress per workspace | A few at a time (3 by default). |
| Custom Instructions | 150 characters |
| Sources read per article | Up to 8 |
If you hit a limit, the wizard shows "Couldn't start generating" with the reason, for example:
- "Your plan plan has used all its content generations for this period (limit). They renew on date."
- "This Workspace already has limit generation runs in progress". Wait for one to finish.
When there are no gaps
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| "Track prompts first: gaps come from the answers your prompts get." | Add prompts to track. |
| "No answers yet for your prompts. Gaps appear after the first tracking run." | Wait for the first tracking run. |
| "Not enough tracking runs yet. Gaps need answers from at least two runs." | Wait for a second tracking run. |
| "Working out your gaps from the last 30 days of answers… check back in a moment." | Opttab is calculating your gaps. |
| "No gaps right now: your pages are cited where it counts." | Nothing to fix. Use Start From Scratch if you want to write anyway. |
