The Agent

Give AI assistants and your website a shopping agent that answers from your live store and sends shoppers to your own checkout.

The Agent is a shopping agent that Opttab hosts for your store. When a shopper asks an AI assistant — or the assistant on your own website — about your products, your agent answers from your live store, can build a cart, and hands the shopper to your store's own checkout to pay.

Available on plans that include the Agent module. Every member can view the Agent pages; only Owners and Admins can change them.

How it works

  1. You connect your store. Today that's Shopify. You can also connect other tools, such as your messaging or CRM tool.
  2. You choose what the agent may do. Turn on actions such as Search products, Check availability, Add to cart or Order status, and test each one.
  3. You publish the agent to AI assistants (Claude, ChatGPT and Grok, as a custom connector) and as a chat assistant on your own website.
  4. Shoppers ask, the agent answers from your live catalog, stock and orders.
  5. Checkout is always a handoff. The agent never takes payment. The shopper pays on your store's own checkout page.
  6. Opttab measures the result. Every call is logged, and paid orders that came through the agent show up in Agent Insights.

Rules the agent always follows

RuleWhat it means for you
Only enabled, tested actions are servedAn action reaches shoppers only when it's turned on and its current version passed its test.
Big changes never go to shoppersEvery action is labeled Read, Reversible write or Consequential write. Consequential writes are never served to shoppers.
Checkout is a handoffThe agent gives the shopper a checkout link. Payment always happens on your store.
Orders stay privateOrder status answers only when the order number and the email both match.

Where to find it

Select the Agent tab in the sidebar. You'll find:

  • Orchestration — a map of your connections, actions, agent and channels.
  • Agent Insights — conversations, orders and revenue.
  • Actions — what the agent is allowed to do.
  • Connections — your store and other tools.
  • Distribution — where shoppers can reach your agent.
  • Agent Settings — data, access rules and audit log.

Each workspace has one agent. Opttab creates it the first time you open an Agent page.
