Set up your agent
Connect your store, enable and test actions, and publish your shopping agent to AI assistants and your website.
This page walks you through setting up your shopping agent, from connecting your store to your first shopper call. The Agent Setup card in the sidebar tracks your progress.
Available on plans that include the Agent module. Only Owners and Admins can connect tools, change actions and publish. Members see "Only an admin can change this".
How it works
The Agent Setup card
The card in the sidebar has eight steps. Each one is ticked only when the real thing exists — not when you open the page.
| # | Step | Where you do it |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Check your website for an existing agent | Connections › Website check |
| 2 | Connect a tool | Connections |
| 3 | Enable actions | Actions |
| 4 | Connect an outbound channel | Connections |
| 5 | Create a distribution channel | Distribution |
| 6 | Pass the channel tests | Distribution |
| 7 | Receive your first agent call | Happens when a shopper (or you) uses the agent |
| 8 | Activate a journey | Journeys |
Connections
Open Agent › Connections.
Run the website check
Under Website check, select Check now. Opttab checks your site — and up to ten competitors — for an existing agent endpoint. If your site already serves one, you can Connect it.
Connect your store
Connect Shopify. Many other apps connect through a catalog that opens in a new tab — finish connecting there, then come back. To add your own MCP server, use Add Custom.
Add a channel (optional)
Connect a messaging or engagement tool as a Channel — where your agent reaches your customers.
Each connection works as a Tool (something your agent acts in, such as your store or CRM) or a Channel (where your agent reaches your customers). Connection statuses are Healthy, Needs attention and Disconnected. The Detected tools and Recommended sections suggest tools found on your site or used by competitors.
Actions
Open Agent › Actions. Under Start with a template, turn on the actions your agent may take with the Enable toggle. For Shopify these include:
- Search products, Product details, Check availability
- Add to cart, Update cart, Checkout handoff
- Log in, Register customer, Order status
Then test each action. A read test calls your store live; a write test changes nothing. Only enabled actions whose current version passed its test are served to shoppers. Every saved edit creates a new version, so edit, then test again.
Need something the templates don't cover? Select Custom Action.
Order status only answers when the order number and the email both match, so shoppers can't look up someone else's order.
Distribution
Open Agent › Distribution — "One agent. Multiple ways to reach it." Select Add channel and pick where shoppers can reach your agent.
These run your agent as a custom connector. The wizard has five steps:
- Setup — endpoint and access.
- Capabilities — tools and instructions.
- Preview — try it in the assistant.
- Tests — the channel tests must pass.
- Package — release and install.
Shoppers (or you) add the connector URL in the assistant. After a new release, Claude users must reconnect the connector to see new tools.
A shopping assistant on your own site, added with one script tag. The wizard has three steps: Setup (store and description), Capabilities and Install.
In Install, set the Assistant name, Colour and Allowed sites (exact addresses — the assistant shows nothing anywhere else). Paste the Snippet just before the closing body tag, then select Release. Shoppers see nothing until the first release.
Releases are numbered and lock in the action versions they include. An unchanged package can't be released again. Release history lists past releases.
Each channel card shows Endpoint health (Healthy, Degraded, Down, Not public or Untested). A healthy endpoint doesn't mean a public store listing is approved.
