Campaigns, conversions and audiences
Connect your OpenAI Ads account and run campaigns, conversion tracking and custom audiences from Opttab.
Campaign Manager lets you run your OpenAI Ads (ChatGPT Ads) campaigns from inside Opttab. You can see campaigns, ad groups, ads and products with their performance, and create new ones — including straight from an Ad Radar action. Conversions and Audiences sit beside it under Ads.
Available on plans that include Ad Studio. Creating or editing campaigns, conversions and audiences needs an Owner, an Admin, or a member with full (write) access. Read-only members can view but not change anything.
How it works
Connect your ad account
OpenAI Ads (ChatGPT Ads) is the ad platform you can connect today. More platforms are planned.
Get your Ads API key
In OpenAI Ads Manager (ads.openai.com), open the Settings tab and copy the Ads API key for your ad account. This is not an OpenAI platform key.
Open Integrations
In Opttab, go to Settings › Integrations and pick the Ads tab.
Connect ChatGPT Ads
On the ChatGPT Ads card, select Connect and paste the key into Ads API key. Save to finish.
Open Campaign Manager
Go to Ads › Campaign Manager. Your campaigns load from the ad account.
Only an Owner or Admin can connect the account. You can also connect it from Chat, which opens a secure form so the key never appears in the conversation.
If the account isn't connected, the page is blurred under Connect Your OpenAI Ads Account with a Connect in Settings button. If the key stops working, you see Reconnect Your OpenAI Ads Account — enter a new key in Settings.
Some features are turned on per ad account by OpenAI, not by Opttab — for example data sources, conversion events, the event stream, custom audiences and product feeds. When one is off, Opttab shows Not enabled on this account. Contact your OpenAI partner representative to enable it.
Campaign Manager
Open Ads › Campaign Manager (/ads/campaigns). It has three tabs: Overview, Campaigns and History. Choose Last 7 days or Last 30 days for performance.
- Levels: Campaigns, Ad Groups, Ads and Products.
- Statuses: Active, Paused, Not serving, Archived. Ads also show review status: In review, Rejected or Approved.
- Toolbar: the Create menu (New Campaign, New Ad Group, New Ad, Add Feed), Activate selected, Pause selected, Export CSV and Export performance CSV.
Two setup cards help you get ready: Ads Setup (add the pixel to track conversions, via Complete Setup) and Add a feed to your OpenAI ad account.
Create a campaign
Create Campaign
Select Create › New Campaign. Enter a Campaign Name and choose:
- Campaign Type — Impressions runs your own creative; Product builds ads from a feed on your OpenAI ad account.
- Objective — Reach, Clicks or Conversions. Conversions needs an active Conversion Event.
- Locations — picked from your Target Market list. Leave it empty to use every location OpenAI serves.
- Eligible platforms, Budget (Daily or Lifetime), Start date and End date. Then select Next: Ad Group.
Create Ad Group & Ads
Set the Bid Strategy (Maximize Results or Fixed bid) and its maximum bid. Maximize Results isn't available for the Reach objective or for lifetime budgets. Add Context hints — one sentence per line describing the conversations your ad should match. Optionally filter products and include or exclude audiences.
For each ad, add a Title (3–50 characters), a body (up to 100 characters), a target URL and an Image (JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 5 MB, cropped square). Choose from library reuses images you uploaded or generated in this workspace.
Review
Check every ad, then choose Save draft or Publish.
| Option | What happens |
|---|---|
| Save draft | Everything is created paused on your OpenAI Ads account. Nothing spends. Activate it later from the Campaigns table. |
| Publish | Everything is created and activated. It starts spending once OpenAI approves the ads. |
Not sure yet? Save a draft. A paused campaign costs nothing, and you can select it and use Activate selected when you're ready.
Start from an Ad Radar action
Select Create campaign on an action in Ad Radar. The wizard opens prefilled from that action. Ads start out written from templates.
On plans that include AI-written ads, you can also select Write ads with AI (1 credit) or Generate image with AI (the cost shows on the button). AI ads use only facts about your brand, and rivals and AI answers are never named in an ad. A failed AI run charges nothing. See Credits.
Product campaigns and feeds
Product campaigns build ads from a feed uploaded to your OpenAI ad account. Feeds you add in Opttab aren't sent to OpenAI Ads yet, so upload your feed on the OpenAI side for product campaigns. Your Opttab product feeds are used in Shopping Insights and in Ad Radar.
Conversions
Ads › Conversions sets up the OpenAI Ads pixel and conversion events, so campaigns can optimize for and report conversions. It has four tabs: Source, Events, Stream and Diagnostics.
Create a pixel
Select Create › New pixel. Give the Data Source Name (for example, Main website) and select Create.
Install the setup code
Copy the Setup code into your website's HTML <head>, near the top. Add only one pixel setup script per page.
Optional: server events
Create a Conversions API key to send events from your server. Copy it right away — it won't be shown again. App events must be sent from a server.
Create a conversion event
Select Create › New conversion event. Pick the Data Source and the Event (for example Order created, Checkout started or Lead created), name it, and set the Click-through attribution window. Use the row's Event code to get the code for that page.
Test it
On the Stream tab, select Start polling, then trigger the event on your site.
Audiences
Ads › Audiences manages custom audiences (customer lists) on your OpenAI Ads account. Include or exclude them in ad groups.
- Select Create Audience. Enter a Name and Description.
- Under Start from, choose A customer file or An empty list, then Create audience.
- Later, use Change members to Add, Remove or Replace all members from pasted identifiers or a CSV/TXT file (for example email, or phone in E.164 format).
An audience moves through statuses such as Processing and Ready. Too small means not enough people matched. Matched users show as ranges, from "Under 25K" to "5M+".
Custom audiences can't be used in campaigns that target the EEA or Switzerland. Opttab sends your file to OpenAI and keeps no copy.
