Add and generate prompts
Add prompts by hand, from Opttab's suggestions or a CSV file, or generate them from your brand data and Google Search Console.
You can grow your prompt list in two ways. Add is for prompts you already have in mind, or suggestions Opttab has prepared. Generate writes new prompts for you.
How it works
Generated prompts and suggestions wait in your discovery pool until you add them. Only added prompts are tracked and run.
Add prompts
Open Prompts and click Add. The Add Prompt panel has three tabs.
Write the prompt
Type it in Prompt ("What would a buyer ask an AI assistant?"). Up to 2,000 characters.
Set the market
Pick a Location (country) and a Language. Both are required.
Pick a topic and intent
Search for a Topic, or type a new name and choose Create to make one. Pick exactly one Intent.
Add tags (optional)
Add a Tag, and optionally a Sub-Tag under it. A sub-tag needs a tag first.
Choose a Run Schedule
Daily, Weekly or Monthly: how often the prompt is asked again on each AI engine. The options depend on your plan.
Save
Click Add Row to add another prompt with the same settings. Click Add Prompt to save.
You see "N prompts added" and the new prompts run on the next sweep. Any row that fails stays in the form with the reason.
Opttab prepares prompt ideas grouped by topic.
Pick suggestions
Tick the prompts you want.
Add them
Click Add Prompt. Suggestions use your plan's default AI engines and run schedule.
Click Refresh for a new set. It takes about 4 minutes, and you can close the panel meanwhile. Suggestions need a country, so add at least one prompt first.
If you reach your plan limit part-way, Opttab tells you how many were added before it ran out of room.
Get the sample
Click Download Sample File to see the format.
Fill in your file
Use CSV or TXT, up to 5 MB. The first row must name the columns, in any order. Columns: Prompt Text, AI Models, Location, Refresh Cycle, Topic, Language, Intent, Tag, Sub-tag, Target Audience, Scope.
Check the preview
Before you import shows how many prompts will be added, which new topics will be created, and how many prompts you'll have against your plan. An import that goes over the limit is blocked.
Import
When it finishes, you see how many prompts were imported, duplicated or invalid.
- Prompt Text, Topic, Language, Intent and Location are required.
- Location must be a two-letter country code, such as
USorDE. - Leave AI Models or Refresh Cycle empty to use your plan's defaults.
- Rows are skipped if they repeat a prompt from earlier in the file, are already tracked, or use an AI engine or schedule your plan doesn't include.
Generate prompts
Click Generate on the Prompts page. The Generate Prompts panel has two tabs.
Writes prompts from what Opttab already knows about your brand, topics and competitors. Nothing is crawled or bought.
Describe what you want
Answer "What do you want prompts for?" in 3 to 500 characters. Example: "comparison prompts for women's trail running shoes against Nike in Germany".
Pick markets
Market defaults to all your tracked markets. Pick up to 5.
Choose how many
How many prompts: 5, 10 (default) or 20.
Generate and keep the best
Click Generate. Tick the prompts you want, then click Add Prompt. Duplicates of existing prompts are skipped.
Turns your real search data into prompts.
Connect Search Console
Connect Google Search Console if you haven't already. See Integrations.
Pick a website
Choose a Website (a Search Console property).
Review the prompts
Opttab writes prompts from your question-style searches and top keywords of the last 28 days. This takes under a minute. Add the ones you want.
If there's not enough search data, you see "No suggestions from Search Console".
Write good prompts
- Ask like a buyer. Write what a real customer would type into ChatGPT, not a keyword. "Which CRM is easiest for a 5-person sales team?" beats "CRM small team".
- Keep it short. One question per prompt. Long, stacked questions produce vague answers.
- Stay grounded. Base prompts on real needs: your Search Console queries, sales calls, support tickets.
- Mix branded and unbranded. Unbranded prompts show whether AI recommends you unprompted. Branded prompts show what it says about you. The Branded slice on the Dashboard separates the two.
- Cover the funnel. Use Funnel View to find buying stages with few prompts.
- Match the market. Set the country and language your buyers actually use.
