Answer Engine Analytics

See how AI answer engines talk about your brand compared with your competitors, by visibility, sentiment, citations, prompts and platform.

Answer Engine Analytics shows how AI answer engines such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Mode talk about your brand compared with the competitors you track. Use it to find where you are strong, where a competitor leads, and which sources shape the answers.

Open it from the sidebar: Analytics › Answer Engine Analytics (/analytics/answer-engine).

Every member with access to the workspace can see this page. How far back you can look depends on your plan — see Plans and billing.

How it works

Opttab asks each AI engine your tracked prompts on a schedule. It reads every answer for brand and competitor mentions, position, citations, sentiment and intent, then rolls the results up per day in your workspace's time zone. The tabs read those daily totals through the filters you pick.

The metrics themselves (Visibility Score, Share of Voice, Positive Sentiment and others) are defined once on Metrics explained. This page explains where each tab shows them and where the counting differs.

The toolbar

Every tab except Prompt Volume shares one toolbar.

  • Period picker: Today, Last 7 days (default), Last 30 days, Last 3 months, Last 6 months, Last 12 months or Custom range. A custom range is up to 365 days and can't end after today. Days follow your workspace's local time.
  • Filters: narrow the data by AI Models, Location, Topics, Intent and Tags. Each list has a search box. An answer matches Intent if it carries any of the intents you pick.

Your filters are saved in the page URL. Copy the link to share exactly the view you are looking at. If a link names something that no longer exists, such as a deleted topic, Opttab drops it and reloads without it.

The seven tabs

Your headline numbers for the period, in three parts.

  • AI Analytics: five tiles — Prompts, Mentions, Visibility Score, Positive Sentiment and Citations. Each has a change pill against the previous period of the same length. New means there was nothing to compare with.
  • Competitor Analysis: a line chart plus a Competitors rail that ranks your tracked brands. Switch the metric between Visibility, Share of Voice, Share of Citations and Sentiment.
  • Platforms: the same four metrics for your brand, split by AI engine.

Why numbers differ between tabs

Some tabs count the same idea in different ways. These differences are expected.

You compareWhy they differ
Citations on Summary vs Total Citations on Sources & CitationsSummary counts every source stored with an answer. Sources & Citations counts only citation pills — the source chips an engine shows — and reports the pages the engine read in the background separately as Number of Sources. The same page cited in three answers counts three times.
Positive Sentiment on Summary or Visibility vs the Sentiment tab scoreThe cards count one sentiment per answer. The Sentiment tab counts quotes — individual statements inside answers — so one answer can add several.
Prompts tab vs other tabsThe Prompts tab always covers all time. The other tabs follow your period.

Investigate a number

Hover a chart and it shows Click to investigate. Click a point or bar, choose the brand in Brand to investigate, then pick one of two actions.

Ask Opttab needs a plan that includes the AI assistant. Without it, the panel shows an upgrade card. See Chat.
