Chat
Ask Opttab's AI assistant about your AI visibility, ads and content, and let it draft work for you to review.
Chat is the AI assistant built into Opttab. Ask it questions in plain language and it answers from your workspace data — the same numbers you see on the Dashboard, Prompts, Analytics, Website Analytics, Ad Radar and Campaign Manager. It can show live charts and tables in the thread, write documents in a canvas, and take a small set of actions after you confirm.
Available on plans that include the AI assistant. If Chat is locked, an Owner or Admin can upgrade in Settings › Billing. Each turn uses credits.
How it works
Start a conversation
Open Chat
In the sidebar, select the Chat tab, then New Chat. Make sure the right workspace is selected — Chat works inside one workspace at a time.
Ask or pick a starter
Type in the box, or choose from Suggestions (for example "Where am I losing visibility to competitors?") or Popular Skills.
Add context
- Select + › Attach to add text files.
- Type
/to pick a skill. - Type
@to point Chat at one of your connected tools.
Review the answer
Use Stop generating if it goes off track. Rate answers with Good answer or Bad answer, and copy or download them.
Attachments
- Text formats only: txt, md, csv, tsv, json, html and xml. PDF and Excel files aren't supported.
- Up to five files per message.
- A long paste (2,000+ characters or 40+ lines) becomes an attachment automatically.
Manage conversations
Your past chats are under Recents, grouped by Today, Yesterday, Previous 7 days, Previous 30 days and Older. Use Search Conversations to find one.
From a conversation's menu you can Rename, Share or Delete it. Share creates a read-only link that shows the conversation as it is now. Select Update link to bring it up to date, or Stop sharing to end the link.
What Chat can and never does
| Chat can | Chat never does |
|---|---|
| Answer questions from your workspace data, with charts and tables | Manage your team or invitations |
| Add, edit or delete prompts, and add topics | Change billing or your plan |
| Run prompt volume checks (after you confirm) | Change security settings |
| Create campaigns, ad groups and ads — paused only (after you confirm) | Create or manage API keys or MCP access |
| Edit ads without raising budget or bids, and pause them | Activate ads or raise budgets |
| Write content drafts in the canvas | Send outreach messages for you |
| Draft outreach messages for you to send | Work outside the conversation's workspace |
| Add a workspace |
Confirm cards
Before Chat changes anything, it shows a confirm card that lists exactly what it will do. Nothing happens until you confirm. If you wait too long, the card expires and Chat asks you to ask again.
Campaigns are always created paused
Chat can build a full campaign for you, but everything it creates on your OpenAI Ads account is paused. Nothing spends until a person reviews it and selects Activate selected in Campaign Manager. Chat can pause ads, but never activates them or raises a budget.
Content and outreach drafts
When Chat writes a document, it opens in a canvas beside the thread. Switch between Preview, Code and Markdown, then Edit, Save version or Approve it. Owners and Admins can also Publish. You can Copy the text or Download PDF.
Outreach messages are drafts only. Opttab never sends them — you do.
Connect cards
If a question needs a tool you haven't connected (or a connection is broken), Chat shows Connect your tools to get the best out of Opttab with a Connect button. Once connected, it says Connected — continuing and picks up where it left off.
For some tools — such as ChatGPT Ads, Shopify, WordPress, Bing and Cloudflare — Chat opens a secure form in the thread, so your key never appears in the transcript. Only Owners and Admins can connect tools; Members see "Only an admin can connect this".
The AI agent panel on other pages
On Optimize pages and in Answer Engine Analytics, an AI agent panel opens beside the page ("What should the agent work on?"). Ask it about what you're looking at, or pick a starter such as "What should I fix first to be cited more by AI assistants?". Select Open in chat to continue in a full conversation.
