Opttab’s preferences let you tailor the extension to fit your workflow — from how the panel looks to how it behaves when your browser starts. Changes take effect immediately and are saved automatically.

Opening Preferences

  1. Click the Opttab icon in your browser toolbar.
  2. Click the Settings gear icon at the bottom of the panel.
  3. Select the Preferences tab.

Appearance

Control how the Opttab panel looks.
SettingOptionsDescription
ThemeLight, Dark, SystemSystem follows your operating system’s light or dark setting.
Compact modeOn / OffReduces padding in the panel so more tabs are visible at once.
Show faviconsOn / OffToggles tab favicons on or off in the panel.

Startup behavior

Configure what Opttab does when you open the browser.
  • Open panel on browser start — Automatically shows the Opttab panel each time the browser launches.
  • Restore last workspace — Automatically reopens the tabs from your last active workspace when the browser starts.

Tab suspension

Opttab can suspend inactive tabs to free up memory. Configure these options to match your needs:
  • Inactivity timeout — Set how long a tab must be inactive before Opttab suspends it. Options include 30 minutes, 1 hour, or never.
  • Exclude pinned tabs — Toggle this on to keep pinned tabs active regardless of inactivity.
Tab suspension is especially useful on devices with limited RAM. A suspended tab reloads automatically when you click on it, so you never lose access to your content.

Notifications

Choose which in-app notifications Opttab displays.
  • Workspace save confirmation — Shows a brief toast notification each time a workspace is saved.
  • Sync status — Notifies you when sync fails or recovers after a connection issue.

Search preferences

Adjust how Opttab searches across your tabs and history.
  • Include browser history in search — Toggle on to search your browser history alongside currently open tabs.
  • Max history results — Sets how many history entries appear in search results. The default is 10.

Resetting to defaults

To restore all preferences to their original values, scroll to the bottom of the Preferences page and click Reset to Defaults. Resetting preferences does not affect your workspaces, account data, or any saved sessions.
