When you have dozens of tabs spread across multiple workspaces, navigating to the right one by clicking through the panel takes time. Opttab’s search overlay lets you jump directly to any open tab, saved workspace tab, or history entry by typing a few characters — no scrolling required. Press Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on macOS) from any tab to open the search overlay. It appears centered over your current page and is ready for input immediately. Alternatively, click the search icon at the top of the Opttab panel. You can open search even when the panel itself is closed.

Searching open tabs

Start typing and Opttab matches your query against the titles and URLs of all currently open tabs in real time. Results appear as you type — you don’t need to press Enter to trigger a search. When you see the tab you want, press Enter or click the result to switch to it instantly.

Searching workspaces

Search results include tabs saved in your workspaces, even if those tabs are not currently open in the browser. Workspace results are labeled with the workspace they belong to. Clicking or pressing Enter on a workspace result reopens that tab and, if necessary, restores the workspace it lives in.

Searching history

Toggle Include history in the search overlay to extend results to your browser’s recent browsing history alongside open tabs and workspaces. History results are shown in a separate section and are distinguished by a history icon. Selecting a history result opens the page in your current tab or a new one, depending on your settings.

Search filters

You can narrow search results using filter prefixes directly in the search box:
@workspace:<name>
Limits results to tabs within a specific workspace. Replace <name> with the exact or partial workspace name.
@domain:<domain>
Filters results by domain. For example:
@domain:github.com
@pinned
Shows only tabs you have pinned, across all open workspaces. Filters can be combined with a keyword query. For example, typing @domain:figma.com design returns results on figma.com whose title or URL contains “design”. Once the search overlay is open, you can navigate entirely by keyboard:
  • Arrow up / Arrow down — move through the result list.
  • Enter — open the highlighted result.
  • Escape — dismiss the search overlay and return to your current tab.
Opttab search is available even when the extension panel is closed. Press Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on macOS) from any tab to open the search overlay without touching the panel first.
